"New"'94 Marlin

 Well it's new to me anyway! A 1906 vintage Marlin '94 in .38-40, with special order pistol gripped, checkered stocks, full round barrel. It was pretty ugly when I got it, but an evening of elbow grease got it looking acceptable!

 Thanks! I shoot all my guns! Not sure if I'll use it for hunting yet, but it well used enough to not worry about it if I do! Checkering was just about worn off, but I recut it tonight, so it looks a lot better. The bore is the best part, as it's shiny with great rifling.

Wow!!! I like that a whole bunch. Very nice Marlin. I have been thinking that my Cowboy LTD would look good switched over to a pistol grip stock like that. I may have to get on it this winter.

 Thanks Jay! I did a "mini restoration" on this gun. It was bare metal on the mag tube and barrel, with no checkering left on the stocks, and very heavy varnish. Stripped the varnish, steamed the dents, and recut the checkering (first time for me to checker!) I rust blued the barrel and mag tube. After Sealing the stocks, and recheckering, I treated the checkering with chromium trioxide, which is a darkening agent that 1700's gunsmiths used to stain wood. I then sealed the checkering too, and reassembled the gun.
 It took a week's worth of evening work, but it made it look very presentable, without a major restoration.

Very nice job there. That sure is a pretty little rifle. I found one like that locally. It is chambered in .25-20. I would like to get it but I am smack dab in the middle of another project that is consuming my gun fund at a pretty good rate.

all i can say is that a rifle like that could have never been ugly ,that is one cool looking peice of steel--------wish i had one my 336rc would be in love

 Thanks Tom! It was always interesting, but it really was pretty ugly with all the varnish, the bare metal, and the checkering worn off. The before picture's quality was poor enough that it made it look acceptable!

 Thanks Rick! Nope, no change any time soon! Only have 6 1894/94 Marlins, while the 1893's are double that figure!
