rifle twist
« on: June 30, 2006, 10:19:44 PM »
took these pic's of the  rifle twist in my pedersoli .54 tryon,it is an old modle and dose not have the 1 in 65 twist of the newer one's it has a 1 in 47.i used a .45 cal gascheck bullet with the gascheck polished up to reflect the flash of the camera.the bullet is inserted 16" into the barrel as you can see the twist is much tighter than the standard  1 in 65 it has done  nearly a half turn at the 16" of  barrel, but it still has a deep groove depth .my barrel measures
.530 land .552 groove it is stamped .54 cal but it is realy a .53 cal.  the old modle uberty hawkin had the same dimentions but was also stamped .54 cal. the new modle pedersoli's have .540 land and .562 groove which makes them a true .54. i use a .527 ball and a .533 mini sized to .529. its a pity pedersoli
dont offer ther new modles with the option of a 1 in 47 as well as 1 in 65 for there .54. there jager percussion rifle has a twist of 1 in 24  wthich  is a stand out for long  bullet's .

Slamfire no complaint just that when i mentiond it to the ozy pedersoli distributor he said it could not be, but when this gun was brought in to west oz he was not the distibutor then.  the pedersoli catalog frome that year, which i still have said it has a 1 in 47 twist the same as the newer .50 cal's, i love it it shoots round balls realy good as it dose mini's and real's and maxiballs. i realy did this post just as a point of intrest.
