Home rolled slugs

I am loading my own 12g slugs using the Lee mold, regular AA wads and AA hulls.  The only problem I am having is that some of the shells crimp a little too deep.  This doesn’t seem to effect their accuracy, which has been comparable with factory loads.  I am using the ‘correct’ powder load, Wads and hulls according to the directions that came with the mold.  I have noticed that a cardboard 20g over the powder wad will just fit into the 12g wad.  I have not tried this yet but it looks as if this might extend the slug enough to avoid the problem in crimping.  Has anyone else experienced this kind of problem with these loads?

I hand load my own slugs, and they are awesome.  I use the dangerous game slug from ballistic products.  Extremely easy to load, and the most accurate slug I have put through my 870 Remington rifled slug barrel.  It is 1-1/8 oz. so it has plenty of know down.  I have not had any deer take more than a step before they dropped.  The shots have been angled through a lung and to the opposite shoulder.  Good wound path, but not excessive, and it passes completely through the deer.  The longest kill was 125 yards.
These are roll crimped, which can be done with a drill and a roll crimp tool you can purchase from them.  My daughter dropped a buck this year in its tracks with a 20 ga version of this slug, and my other daughter did the same with a large doe.  Both of these kills were at 75 yards.

How can you get in touch with ballistic products and do they have a website?

I had trouble like that with the Lyman slug.  Turned out I was using too much seating pressure and compressing the wad, making a shorter load.  Backed off the pressure a bit and no more problems.  These are killer slugs as well.

The Lee slugs shoot really well, it is just that the crimp on some of them is just plain ugly.  As my only shotgun reloader is an old Lee Classic, which has loaded many thousand successful loads, control of the seating pressure is iffy.  As soon as I get time I will load some using the 20g-fiber wad and let you all know how they work.

Once you see how easy it is to load the Dangerous Game Slugs, how accurate they are, and how economical they are you probably will not want to mess with anything else.  You can get 25 Slugs for $13 plus shipping.  I have loaded many slugs, and even some sabots.  I would clearly say, hands down,  that I have had the best results with the Dangerous Game Slug.  The slug comes with the wad attached to it, so you do not even need to buy a wad.  If you wish to be a little bit more exotic they sell a sabot version of this slug.  I have not used the sabot version, because the standard version is quite accurate.

Very interesting thread.  Here in Ohio we are shotgun single slug only and i have been wondering about loading my own.  I would just like to see if I could make a really accurate slug.  I buy stuff from Ballistic Products and have their catalog so I'll do some checking.

I shoot an 870 Express 3" 12 gauge with a Mossberg rifled barrel and it does good with Lightfield sabots, but it would be fun to try for a super accurate deer load.

I use HS-7 for the DG Slug, it is an excellent powder.  I used load data for 1-1/8 oz. shot.
I purchased 3" hulls from ballistic products, and a roll crimper.

I use titewad for the Sabot, 2500 fps.

They will send you load data with the slugs.  If you want to reach out there past 125 yards, the sabot has allot of range.  Where I hunt 150 yards is the max I can shoot, so I stick with the DG Slug.  I have given a few slugs to different people with different guns, and they all have similar results.
