i bought a yugo!
« on: October 29, 2006, 07:01:19 AM »
i went to the gun show yesterday and saw a yugo sks with grenade launcher for $195.  i figured i would not be able to beat that price, and i couldn't talk the dealer down any, so i bought it.  now i'm cleaning the cosmoline out of it.  (but it sure does look pretty already)   ;D

i want to take the stock off to get all the cosmoline out of it, but i can't get the darn screw out that holds it on.  it looks like it has been staked into the nut, and i've tried rapping it with a hammer and it won't loosen up.  i've even tried removing the metal that is staked together...and still no luck.  i removed a friend's stock on his chinese sks, but it didn't give me this much trouble.

also, what do you guys recommend to get all the cosmoline out of the barrel and gas piston tubes?
When the whole world is crashing down around me, atleast I'll have my SKS.

TT

The best thing to clean the Yugo with are the cans of brake cleaner that you get at the auto parts store , it took 3 cans to do this one .

I gave $ 149 + tax for it about 2 mo. ago at the local MC Sports store , well worth the money .

thanks, i got it apart and spent 10 hours cleaning it yesterday.  i'm pretty sure i got 98% of the gunk out of it.  the stock is so badly saturated with the stuff that i think i may just replace it.  it isn't warm enough this time of year to bake the cosmoline out in the sun.

your sks cleaned up really well; it looks great.  what kind of groupings are you getting, stimpy?
