Early Savage
« on: June 15, 2006, 05:15:03 AM »
A gunsmith has told me of a savage that predates my 60s model 110.  The ones we have today the locking lugs are on the face of the bolt and locks into barrel.  The one he keeps telling me to find locks at the back of the bolt.  He says it is a smooth operating action and those that have them keep them.

I have two 110s.  One was purchased in the 70s, the other has to predate 64 or earlier.  The oldest has a clip that is on the face of the bolt that is the extractor where the 70s model has the extractor in the face of the bolt.  I've never seen an extractor like the round clip and I believe it predates 1970.

anyone familiar with either?

I think he is talking about the Savage 340. They where a cheap, but good shooting rifle. my wife and I have 2 such rifles in .30-30, and use them for hunting Whitetails.
