Where to get a slug barrel for Benelli Super Nova?
« on: January 10, 2008, 09:22:11 AM »
Hi, I recently got a Benelli Super Nova and I dearly want to get a slug barrel for it, cantilever style. The only place I've found was the dealer, but they want big dollars (as it comes in from Benelli). Who else distributes/makes barrels for these guns?

Thanks

Badger Barrel Co make a rifled slug barrel for a Nova, but I don't know if that will fit a Super Nova, as I am not familiar with Benelli.

Thanks, I finally got through to them. Their website isn't working properly and their email isn't either. I received a phone call in regards to a partial email they got from me. The check's on it's way to them and the barrel soon to me. My advise to anyone wanting a barrel from them is to call them directly.

I also took the advice and purchased a slug barrel from Badger for my Benelli Super Nova. I have received the barrel and could not be more happy with fit and finish, As far as performance, well I have not shot it as of now, but I really like the fact that Badger includes in the packing slip what ammo works best in their barrels and tips to overcome any issues with shot pattern performance. Badger is a first class company to deal with in regards to customer service as well. By the way the price for the Benelli Super Nova Rifled Slug Barrel was $219+shipping. I will provide further details in regards to my results at the range as soon as I return.

Well finally took my Supernova Badger rifled slug barrel to the range. I had two types of slugs with me, 2.75" Federal Barnes Sabots(non tipped), and the new Remington Premier Accutip Bonded Sabot Slug 2.75" @ $17.99 a box (ouch). I could not get the Federals to group at all at 50 yards after 7 shots. When trying the Remington's I was hoping this was going to be my answer, especially for the price. Well first two shots cut the same bullseye hole at 50 yards. After being impressed I moved the target to 100 yards. Well two more shots @ 100 yards were within an inch but actually were an inch high but the windage was dead on. After being so impressed and having fun I sent two more slugs down to the 100 yard target, only to find the slugs consistency was holding true at under a 1" group after a total of 4 shots. My Badger Barrel loves these new Remington Slugs, hope this helps.

Field Test: Took the Benelli Supernova to the field with the Badger Barrel and as already posted this barrel loves the new 2.75" Remington Premier AccuTip Bonded Sabot, but I can tell you first hand whitetails are not big fans of this combination. Opening morning found me in Ohio chasing those big corn fed giants. Well just at shooting light I saw a giant 8 point buck feeding around in some brush at 141 yards (ranged) and I thought, well he is headed in my direction I will wait. He closed the distance to 127 yards (ranged) when he threw his head up as if about to spook and clear out. Typically I would have never attempted this shot, but I felt confident with my firearm setup. So I aimed for heart and lungs as he stood broadside swinging his rack around in an alert posture. I squeezed the trigger and my slug rang out slamming this whitetail to the ground. The bullet hit right on the mark, but the destruction was absolutely devastating. This buck later dressed out at 231lbs.
Next trip to the field I was in pursuit of a doe (meat deer). I saw what I thought to be a good size doe at 62 yards(ranged), after the last incident I did not hesitate in squeezing the trigger on this deer. One shot and she never even took another step. That doe later dressed out at 139lbs.
I then let a friend borrow my gun, who was having some troubles with his shotgun. Well to make an already long story short, he is in the market for a Benelli Supernova with a Badger barrel. He had a 9 point buck step out at 92 yards(ranged) and he said he had great reservations, as he doesn't shoot his smoothbore shotgun past 50 yards. However, he went with what I told him an he hung his tag on the 9 pointer that also fell in his tracks. That buck weighed 222lbs. dressed.
So in conclusion I can not brag enough on this shotgun/barrel/ammo combination. If you are in the market for a great slug gun, I don't think you will be disappointed. I know with the economy the way it is now, that slugs are not cheap and shooting through boxes of ammo to test which combination works best can be painful, so I hope my input may be helpful to those whitetail sluggers out there. I also got exceptional results with these slugs in my H&R Ultra Slug Hunter.
