Three prong crosshairs
« on: July 15, 2006, 11:25:14 AM »
I've always been a big fan of the german three prong(missing the top bar) crosshair, my dad said it was my german heritage coming out of me, but i've noticed that only the german scopes(too rich for my blood) have them i was hoping there would be an american company that offered this in their scopes. Anyone know of any? thanks.

I believe you are talking about the post and crosshair type that was at one time more popular here.

I have an older such a scope that I bought a few years ago for $20..It is a Unertl 4X with steel tube.

I won't be selling mine any time soon, but perhaps if you haunt the "old scopes" at gun shops, you may come across one..

Kalinka also has a few. They also have the Dragunov style in several scopes as well.

BSA does with their CatsEye scopes, though not a TRUE german plex, it's close:

the Russians used it right? the 3.5x PU scope on the M91-30s was the post reticle.

Just buy what ever Leupold ya want then get a custom reticleput in.

i'm not rich enough to get a high powered leupold and then have enough to get a custom reticle too.

lowest power 4 or so highest power 14-18, i've been considering the 4.5x14 nikon mil dot for a little under 300$ dont want to spend much more than that.

I have one of the CatsEye scopes with this reticle and I'm happy with it. It's not the nicest scope I own by any means, not real crazy with the rubber finish, and the eye relief is kinda critical, but it's the full 4-5" thats for sure. The reticle is nice to work with and getting on target is very easy. If you get a chance to check one out, put it on the wooden test rifle and have a look. Natchez has Refurbs on sale right now :

Still the Nikon is a nice scope, though I was a little disappointed with the field of view.
Have you ever considered the Super Sniper scope from SWFA?
It's in your price range and has excellent reviews.
And it's easiest to learn the Mil. Dot system when it's on a fixed power. I'm still learning myself.

I'm going to put one on my 308.

Hey myarmor, how is the clarity of the BSA Cat'seye compared to your other scopes?  I've been curious as they are selling refurbished Cats eyes at Nachez.  I had a BSA Huntsman that was terrible.  It was like looking through a Coke bottle.  I might put one on a Marlin 60 in 22lr.

The clarity? It's really quite good. Better than any BSA line of scope I have looked through.  I have the 1.5-4.5 low power model. For the $30 I paid for it it's well worth the price. My only complaints are these...the black rubber finish..the eye relief as mentioned is kinda critical, but I have experianced worse...and the coating on the rear lenses are reflective. It's a heafty scope, and has held up to my 44Mag very well. It's no Leupold or Weaver, but remeber the $$ your putting out. And for that it's not bad at all. I wish I could comment on the higher power models, but I don't have any of them, at least not yet. I have a 223 barrel that needs a scope, and my funds are tight, so I might pick up the 4-16x50 model for it.
