Kickapoo Cannon
« on: July 15, 2006, 01:10:40 PM »
I ran across this picture of an 1841( I treid to upload it but I can't get to go!) in a museum in Kansas. I understand how to blow up a cannon- but they were using it to clear a mine shaft! :o How does THAT work? ???

The folks in that part of Kansas (North East) seem to have a talent for blowing up cannons. The other cannon, Old Sacramento, captured in the same battle, was blown up years later in Lawrence, Kansas. They were supposedly trying to raise the bodies of drownding victoms, by firing cannon low accross the Kansas river. Somebody went to far and filled the old cannon to the muzzle with grass and mud. Blew the side out of her. Luckly no one was hurt by the flying pieces. The rest of the cannon is in Lawrence at the Watkins museum.   Boomer
