Friday morning at about 5:30 am I saw a flock of seagulls numbering about 20 in a vacant lot. The lot was about an acre of mown grass and the gulls were milling about as gulls do (I think they were looking for grubs but not sure)
I then see a number of gulls take off one after another in a sporaditic fashion. I get myself turned around (I was in a semi) and see between trailers a turkey running after a gull. Then another and another. Eventually all the gulls were run off by this one turkey.
Good sized bird. Might have been a tom. Not sure, he was moving and so was I. About 50 yards away from my point of view.
After the gulls were cleared, no sign of the turkey.
Are turkeys that territorial? Were the gulls too close to a nest?
Cool to see, whatever was going on.
