Rossi Combo Barrel Question
« on: July 16, 2006, 08:14:25 AM »
Ok,  I've got a buddy who bought a .22/20ga combo.  He now wants to buy a .243 barrel for it.  Can he?

If so, where can these be purchased?

Don't believe that rossi ever got their barrel program up and running. Only NEF and T/C.

So basicially if he wanted the .243 barrel, he should have bought a gun that came with it???

Sadly, yes. NEF/H&R, TC, and CVA are among the only ones at this time that offer barrels that swap out quickly. Rossi has promised the program for years now, with nothing to show as of yet.  The question of frame strength comes up too, with a frame being able to handle the 243, being a very high pressure round, and at the same time keeping it at a low cost 22LR receiver. Of course they offer the 243 and other high pressure calibers, but I am sure their centerfire rifles have a lot stronger action than the rimfire and shotgun models.  Perhaps this is one reason it has complicated things for Rossi. Who's to say.

As I understand it unlike H&R who only has to deal with 2 different frame (receiver) sizes, Rossi has at least 4 different frames and they are having trouble matching what caliber with what frame without going to different barrels of the same caliber for each frame size making the barrel program cost prohibited.
