500 S&W

  Anybody got a 500 S&W handi rifle how do they shoot and how bad is the recoil i know i saw a post in here somwhere saying it kicks more than a 45/70?

I think you'll find that with comparable velocities and bullet weight, the recoil is pretty much the same, those that compare the 2 and say the .500 kicks more, probably have only shot trapdoor loads in the .45-70 which are pretty mild. ;)

  Hummmm my stepson wanted me to find out a little about it before he went and had the barrel fitted on his survivor. He might not like the recoil it's going to put out it would probley knock him on him his rump for sure.

If you/he handload for it, you can load it down a bit to help reduce the recoil, Hodgdon shows some 1100-1500fps loads for the lighter bullets in their handgun data.  Factory ammo is real spendy, too!!

There has been more than one .500S&W sold in the classifieds due to the recoil!!

   Yeah i noticed the factory ammo is any where from $35.00 to $47.00 dollars a box that's kinda steep :o
