German cartridge ID???
« on: June 05, 2007, 02:09:49 AM »
Recently went to a German gun show and saw a type of cartridge that I’ve never seen or heard of before.  Thought I’d see if anyone had any ideas about it.  The guy had three of them in a case but he was really busy selling stuff and didn’t seem to speak any English.  Of course the Frau und Kinderen drug me out of the show before I could get back to try to ask him about it so…  This was about the same length as a .30-’06 but it had TWO shoulders.  About one-half inch up from the base, it had a shoulder that was fairly sharp then at the “normal” point, it had another shoulder that served to make the neck like normal.  Don’t remember if it was rimmed or not… Any ideas?

I seem to recall that George Herter had designed some rifles/cartridges with a double shoulder.  Odd looking and not found in regular cartridge books.  I think he also made a wasp waist bullet which had two bore riding bands.  He was into ... well .... being George Herter!  I will need to dig in my library to refresh my memory.  Perhaps others can add.  JB

Well, I may have made an AD here. Jumped the gun so to speak.  I re-read your post and you said the first neck down (step) was near the base, As I recall the Herter rounds had theirs up at the neck a double neck so to speak.  Sorry for the miss fire
