Barrels

Hey all,

I was wondering if anyone here has any experience with Adams and Bennett barrels.

They're inexpensive.  Are they cheap?  How so?

From the experience I have had with these barrels, which is far from extensive, they seem to be OK for most hunting rifle applications. The rifling seems to be a little rougher than say a Shilen or Douglas, but then again, compare the price and one wouldn't expect the same quality. I have several that I purchased when they were considerably less expensive than what they are selling for today. I won't be making any custom target rifles with these barrels, but I think these barrels will outshoot most shooters.

Yep, I agree with the above post. Most of them are pretty rough, about like factory Savage barrels. I don't think I'd pay someone to put one on, but for my own projects to just play around with they're great. I'm thinking about getting one of their .375 or 45 cal. to make a slug shooting muzzleloader with.

I too concur. The A&B barrels I've worked with would shoot fairly well, likely better than needed for most hunting rifles.. I've would say they could produce target grade accuracy but then they don't cost much either.. I've still got a mauser with a 35 Whelan A&B to stock and finish.. I've also got a mauser with a 243 barrel inproperly installed that I bought as a project. I got a good deal and plan on finishing it for my uncle to shoot coyotes and the occassional deer with.. Still a Douglas doesn't cost a bunch more and if you spend as much to install as for the barrel it is perhaps not a great idea..

Hey all,

Thanks for the input.  I was trying to be shopping on a budget and somebody (offline) told me that the barrel is the only guidance that the bullet has.  They told me to get a good one...  For the amount of work I'm going to be doing, I might as well use known quality components.
I ordered a Shilen earlier tonight.
