New to NEF rifles and this site...
« on: July 29, 2006, 06:56:47 PM »
Howdy all, Great Site!
I am in the process of purchasing an older rifle that has both the 30-30 barrell and a 20 gauge barrell with it. (10 day wait in CA)
It also has "Buffalo" stamped on the left (drivers sideplate).  Only $125 bucks.  I hope I didn't pay too much...  ???
I have two questions:
How can I tell which receiver it has, rifle or shotgun? (in case the PO bought a rifle barrel for a shotgun receiver)
Secondly, has anyone shot the new Hornady Lever evolution ammo for 30-30 through one yet?  How's it do?

Thanks a bunch!

Welcome aboard, Chico!! You can determine the year the frame was built by looking in the FAQ and Help sticky, there's also pics in there of the different frames, but the only way to find out what frame you have for sure is to call H&R(ph number and email are in the FAQ) and give them the serial number of the frame, they'll tell you if it's a rifle frame(SB2) or a shotgun frame (SB1) and what barrels can be fitted to it. $125 is a pretty good price, btw!

Spend some time in the FAQ and Help, there's lots of good stuff in there that can answer a lot of your questions. ;)

Hello Chico Co, Welcome GBO forums, You will soon be a Handi-holic.
The way it sounds by your post you are getting older H&R set'
I don't think H&R, NEF will any others barrels on it, just my thoughts.
Could be wrong, Best to call if you want more barrells.
Good Luck Sorry you have 10 day waiting period.
 Marv.

Welcome to GBO. That is a good deal in my book. Even if it is on an SB-1 receiver, I wouldn't worry too much. The 30-30 is modest pressures at around 42,000 PSI.
I have shot my 44Mag off one of my new SB-1 receivers with no problems. It's suppose to be around 36-37,000 or so. Of course approach with caution.
Look forward to hearing how she shoots for you.
