cleaning model 94 ?
« on: July 30, 2006, 04:09:43 PM »
So I think its pretty safe too say that one should always clean the barrel from the breach to the muzzle, right. So how do I do that with my model 94 without taking it down? From all i've seen an read, taking it down is best left to professionals. so what are my options?

Clean it from the muzzle, just be careful not to mess up the muzzle crown.  A bore guide will help.

OTIS system works well for me with .45 Trapper & 38.55 Legacy.

Too that i would add...........change your "patches" frequently or better yet, one
    pass and done.

You will be amazed how easily a model 94 comes apart!
I bought another one from a guy this summer who carried
it on his 4 wheeler. It was a disaster area! sand and dirt in everything.
I went to the internet and printed out disassembly instructions
and a couple hours later it was spic and span inside and out.
and reassembled. If you do not feel comfortable doing this.
get one of the flexible chain or cable type Pull through bore Brush
kits. That should do the job.

You can make a quick bore guide by using another cartridge case.  try a .223 case.  Drill out the primer pocket so your cleaning rod slips through.  If the rod doesn't slip through because the rod is larger than .223, then you'll have to trim the neck off to the taper.  Slip the case mouth into the muzzle and the rod won't rub the barrel.  I've used 38 spl case for my 44-40--its perfect.  The case slips in and the rim rests on the muzzle.  303 British works for 45-70.
