If the .22 will shoot Beeman Kodiaks at 600+ fps I would choose that one. .177 will take squirells all day but the .22 will take them right now.

I prefer a .20
I believe the .177 would easily be the most economical
though and should do nicely for what you mentioned
doing with it.

I have a 350 .177 and I use Beeman Crow Magnums in it.  I have easily killed squirrels at fifty yards and more. The rifle is a flat shooter and really reaches out (within reason) I like it.  My hunting buddy has a .20 and sometimes he'll call me to take a shot that he can't reach out to.
I know that some people prefer the .22, but the .177 is my choice.  It shoots well with the Crow Magnum pellet or the Premier heavy.

if i am hunting it a .22 and just shooting cans it's my 177. i like the .22 because i get power and if it too far than i just pass it up. the 350 i think shoots a 14.5 gr pellet at 1020fps.

It depends... I use airguns to plink and shoot ground squirrels in the pastures. Used to use center and rimfire rifles and pistols for this duty but overpopulation has made that impossible. I shoot out to 40 yards mostly so either caliber works, however, I do want humane kills and I'm a firm believer that big bores are better in this regard. Velocity does kill it's true but a .22 caliber hole in a critter the size of a groundsquirrel makes quick work of them.
