I have a NEF Limited Edition 243 (cinnamon laminte stock, 22" bull barrel, scope rail, ejector, gold medallion in stock) I put a Weaver Classic 3x9x38 scope on it with lupold (high) mounts, and a camo sling. I also put a 9 round shell carrier on the stock I really like this solid little rifle and it looks pretty cool to. I paid $160 w/o scope and sling at a used guns clearance sale. The rifle looks brand new.
The first trip to the range the fired shell got stuck in the chamber and would not eject. I took it back to the shop I got it in and they sent it back to H&R. They did not charge me for shipping or repairs. When I got it back from H&R they put it in a new box with paper work, hammer spur extension, allen wrench and the problem was fixed. I even requested them to check the latch and it locks up tight on the first time I close it every time now. The customer service was great..
At the range it was grouping 1.5" from bench and sand bags at 100 yards. That was with winchester 100 grain. I also tried federal 80 grain and the groups opened up quite a bit. I have always heard these shoot the lighter bullets better, not mine.
In any case, 100 grain factory for deer will work fine and 80 grain factory for varmits will make this a great all around rifle for what you are asking. I reload an plan on working up some loads for what has become one of my favorite new rifles.
