how do you store a Handi Rifle in the truck?

This may sound stupid, but seriously, what would be the best way to keep a rifle in the truck long-term?  I bought a bolt gun with scope off a guy that had all of the bluing on the rifle and anodizing on the scope worn.  It was vibrating around inside the soft case or whatever that he used.  I want to keep a Handi in the toolbox (it's dry as a bone).  That's as far as I got.  Any ideas?  This would be a longterm storage not just during deer season.

I have a 98 Chevy Z71 extended cab, I just lay mine on a blanket in the small back seat.........

Long term--------like a mounting rack on the underside lid of the box? I would put camo hunting cloth tape on at least the contact points on the gun where it contacts the rack (if not the whole barrel). Let the rack rub the tape instead of the gun barrel.  There use to be something called a Bianchi "bluebag" for long term storage that had rust inhibators in it. Don't know if they still make it.
If you do mount it to the inside lid of the tool box, that would keep it out of the way from the contents of the box. Biggest problem is when you open the box, it will be in plain view of everyone advertising the fact that you store a gun there mounted to the underside.

On a different matter, did you check the master book at wal-mart about the nef's? (wal-mart web drops the nef? thread)

 I have stanard cab p[ickup, I have a tray behind seat lay rifle in it
 on coats or other stuff. I also carry a shotgun in a saddle scabbard (sp)

I would find a good hard case that will fit behind the seat and keep it unloaded and locked while in the vehicle..the type of case has the o-rings on the lips to seal out water and stuff from getting inside it..one like SKB makes....I don't know the reason why you would want to keep a rifle in a vehicle for extened periods..but..I certainly would do it this way if I had to....Cabelas sells the silicon impregnated gun socks..and I would have it inside of that inside the case.There are a couple of take down cases as well that are on the market that will hold the 26" barrels and frames if a full lenght case is to long..

I've had a gun rust inside a silicon gun sock, I hate those things. They trap condensation.

Great idea on wrapping with sticky tape.  I will try that out.  I want to keep the rifle in the truck because the range is 80 miles away.  The only real time that I get to shoot is when we go to the in-laws in Texarkana.  I drop off the kiddos and drive to the county rifle range.  It would be easier just to keep SOMETHING in the truck or car.  Invariably, I forget targets, cartridges, the rest, something.  If you have to remember bottles, formula, LEGOS, jammies, etc. then you know what I mean.  Thanks for the ideas.

Some police supply places sell locking gun racks that might be adapted to a tool box. I've seen horizontal mounts made for car trunks
that hold long guns securely. I'm in the deep south where it's about 2 degrees above hell and humid to boot so rust is an issue. It might be worth a look though.

Something you might want to look at are seat covers that have a built in gun sleave so the rifle slides in from the drivers door and rests just behind the calf of your leg .

You have to get out of the truck to pull it from its resting place so this makes cops less nerv-ase than seeing a rifle in the truck window and people will not see it every time you open the tool box . just another idea .

Gander Mt. used to carry them and so did some other places .
