Brooke rifles

While reading about these rifles I came accross this remark and couldn't figure out what it meant.
"The breeching jaws of Brooke tubes are exact copies of those designed by John Dahlgren for his shell guns."

Are you guys getting tired of me asking questions yet?

Breeching jaws are the type of "cascable" used on that style of guns.  Not the traditional rounded knob type nor the groove style of Rodman.  I think they were designed to work with a screw elevator which had a separate nut that engaged the hole in the breeching jaws.

OK, I noticed the cascabel had the big hole through it and wasn't round. I thought maybe the hole was for a rope tiedown maybe.
