I just passed up a T/C Hawken for $100 that had major pitting in the bore. I was lucky to have a bore light to drop down the bore. The pitting was real bad at mid barrel which is the first time I have seen that. It looked too bad to salvage. I did shoot another rifle that had pitting pretty bad the whole barrel but not to the extent that the rifling was not pretty sharp. It shot just fine even though there was noticable pitting the whole barrel. I ran about 200 passes with JB bore paste and then shot it with good results. I passed on that one after I pulled the nipple and found the nipple hole rusted pretty bad. I was concerned that the nipple might blow out. I guess I could have tapped it to a larger nipple size but that seemed a little bit too much to do based on what the guy wanted for the rifle.
