WL44's 353
« on: August 16, 2006, 11:55:08 AM »
Wim has had some issues with pics ( as have I ). But I can get them posted
on THR. So he sent me some shots of his very fine 353, and I in turn
put them on THR. If you'd like to take a look, this link should do it ( I hope ).

I'll let Wim explain what he's doing with the ammunition comparrisons. If I
understood his email, it's another sad commentary on gun control.

I wish I could find out how many 353s were made. On this forum, I'm
only aware of three owners, Wim, myself, and I believe Scott.

Anybody else?

Thanks Tucker.

I may have explained a bit in a previous post. This was my first FA and I only acquired my 2nd last weekend  ;D.

My 353 is a 6" Premier Grade, factory trigger job and trigger stop, target crown and 2 factory Magnaports.

Other factory options installed include all those that come standard with FA - like great lockup, almost no cylinder/barrel gap, kick-butt accuracy and owner satisfaction  ;D.

According to FA it was made in the 80's some time (they did tell me, but I don't recall exactly when) and shipped to a shop in Texas. I'm not sure how it made its way to South Africa.

When I was in the US last year I picked up a Leupold mount from FA. That's a 4X Leupold M8 EER from the early 1990's, but I had hardly used it before mounting it on the 353.

I vented in a post yesterday... so a very brief explanantion. I took the pics to accompany my firearm licence renewals application. I have a Colt King Cobra (6" Blue) and need to justify owning two .357 Mags (amongst a pile of other things to justify). I was trying to show how long the cylinder is compared to "standard" .357's and how far out I can seat those 180gr XTP's compared to "standard" ammo (those are 125 gr Sierra JHP's). Basically explaining that a FA mod. 83 .357 isn't really a .357 at all!
