I just ordered some Magnus 300 grain Hardcast bullets . I have been shooting 300 Xtp Mags . Want to try something a little cheaper just to practice with. I have been loading mainly with 2400 & H-110 . They tell me at Magnus that these bullets don't need gas checks,which according to many of the post I have read it the past are recommended. Well if anyone has any suggestion I would like to here them ,Thanks.

Hello, IMO I'd ask Magnus for confirmation if they'll pay for the damage of your guns forcing cone?
Be aware that even standard jackets have been reported to distort under Casull level loads (American Rifleman) causing damage to the firearms forcing cone.
I'd stick to loads generating LESS than 1500fps and enjoy!

The D&J Bullets I have been using have had the same claim. Forget it. I have spent too many nights trying to get the lead out of my barrel (don't read too much into that

) to mess around with anything over 1300 fps w/o gas checks. For full house loads I have been using the 300 gr. XTP Mags. Consider the lead bullets your plinking/ practice rounds and get the XTPs sighted in before hunting season. Thats my plan anyway. Shoot a few full house every session, just so I am used to them, but primarily I shoot 45 heavy colt or 454 <1300 fps.

I've been pushing a 340gr WFP hard cast plain base with 30gr of WW296 and getting 1534 fps over the Chrony. I've seen no leading and these are very accurate out of my 6.5" Raging Bull. The bullet maker, Tennessee Valley Bullets, gave me this load and told me that he has had no problems with leading in the 1500 fps range. These bullets are in the 18-20 Brinell hardness range. For $ reasons I shoot 95% cast.

I have some 250 LRNFP from D&J Cast. Anyone have a light load recommendation with 454 brass and Blue Dot powder. Thanks. LIV

Are the Castcore bullets found in Federal's Premium 300 grain .44 Mag. ammo similar to the Magnus 300 grain hard cast?

Overdriving a soft cast bullet will cause leading as quickly as underdriving a harder one. Most commercial cast bullets should work well up to 1300 fps, which if a practice load should be quite adequate.
