Bought a Remington knife.

I bought a Remington knife the other day that was priced at $49 but marked down to $39.  It has a 4&1/4" blade and feels  VERY sharp right out of the box.  Are Remington's knives generally well thought of, or did I make a bad buy.

It all depends on which one you bought. The new  Remington's come in both crappy(420 stainless....usually just written as stainless) and at least some are in 440A stainless.  It's a decent enough steel that will hold a reasonable edge.  I had a Gerber in 440A and it held an edge better than the Buck Rush I had in 420HC.  The one  Remington I have is in "stainless" (it was a gift) and it sits in my drawer.  It simply doesn't hold a decent edge for long; which is too bad, because otherwise the knife is well made.

high carbon steel. You know, the knives you must take care of. Stainless wears well(440a, 440 b, 402az) what ever. High carbon steel.. I pick them up at yard sales and fle markets, the stains make them worthless but they are fine tools.. Stainless is for those who use their knife once a year, during hunting season.. P.S. Never store a good knive in a leather sheath... let them breath and keep them waxed or oiled. IMHO!
