257 WBY

Took my WBY 257 out to the range to see what kind of group it would shoot with the Hornady bullets.

It shot a 3/4" three shoot group with 100 gr bullets. Seemed like it was getting smaller the more I shot. Only firred 10 rounds.

Congrat's on a great rifle in a great cartridge.  Is this a new gun or just the first you've tried Hornady bullets?  Mark V or Vanguard?  My .257 Weatherby never shot factory Hornady loads (100 gr spire points) better than about 1.5" at 100 yards.  I never tried the pricier, factory offerings but found success with 117 grain Sierra gamekings in front of H4831SC.

Keep shootin'

I've had this 257 WBY Mark 5 for some time. I have two or three different 100 gr bullets and had those Hornady 100gr SP bullets loaded behind RL25. Thought I'd shoot some and find out what they would do.

How do those Serria 117gr bullets do at 100 yds Sodbuster? I don't shoot those factory rounds either. I use RL25 for all my rounds in my 257 WBY.

Some years ago I bought a like new Mark V, German made. Like yours, it wouldn't group the heavier bullets. Found out later, after I sold it, the twist was too slow. Just recently bought the Super Light with the fluted barrel and syn. stock with aluminum bedding. After sighting in, first load thru was 120gr Hrndy/ 66gr H1000. Grouped nicely into a nickel at 100yrds. Wonder what it will do with more load development. ;D

In front of H4831sc I can put 3 117 grain GameKings inside 3/4" from a rest at 100 yards.  Haven't shot it from the bench any farther than that.  I'd like to try Reloader 22 in it one of these days.  Been disappointed in results with IMR7828, and AA8700.  Have had some success with 100 grain bullets and W760.

I have those Serria 117gr bullets not loaded. I have those Hornady 117 gr bullets loaded. The reason I have them loaded is because I shot all these 87, 100, and the 117 to 200 yds and they all stayed inside a 2" group. Even those 120gr Speer bullets grouped at 200 yds but was a little bigger group.
