Elk Taxidermy?
« on: August 18, 2006, 04:59:37 AM »
I know this is off topic for the centerfire forum, but you guys always have good advice.  My son was fortunate enough to get an antlerless elk license this year.  If he's successful, I already know what he's going to want.  Unfortuately, I don't have a place to hang a shoulder mount cow elk...and mother wouldn't be realy happy about that either.

Do you guys have any other ideas or suggestions about something we could do to create a longer lasting memory of his hunt?

I assume that we could have the hide tanned, and keep that.  He also read in a book that elk have a couple of ivory teeth, or something like that?  What about a European mount, is that something that would be cool?  Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks

Make a rug out of it.  Then you can roll it up and stuff it under the bed when the wife complains.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

The cows and bulls both have ivories (originally tusks, many moons ago) in the upper pallate that you can make rings, etc,. out of. This should keep you busy for awhile. ;D
