NG
« on: May 26, 2010, 06:41:08 PM »
I'm just putting the final touches on my mountain howitzer.  I started it mainly as a large noise maker but I have to admit to a temptation to knock something over with a steel ball or whatever is handy  The carriage is the pack type and the barrel is a 2.25" from Hern.  I should have the tires on the rims next week and then it is "Look out, Betty!"  However, before I pierce a charge, I would appreciate some advice from experienced hands on suitable loads for both noise and more serious stuff, plus construction of a practical sponge.  I've mined this site and Buckstix quite a bit and have seen or shot smaller charges with salt and flour on top but don't see anything but disadvantage.  Any help?

Fred -

WELCOME to the board!

What does Hern recommend?  Good place to start, if they venture any info.
There are excellent references, not at my fingertips as I'm out the door for a week in a few minutes.
Switlik, in his volume has a table.
General recommendation is to start rediculusly low.
