45 colt loads for a 45 / .410 Thompson G2
« on: August 14, 2006, 06:17:33 PM »
I need some advise on the max 45 colt for a new G2 with a 45 / .410 12" barrel.  I would keep the range very close but I want to shoot the heaviest load the frame will handle.  I found the Buffalo Bore Heavy .45 Colt with a velocity of 1450 fps and M.E. of 1214 ft lbs.  Does anyone have any experience with these loads?  Can the G2 handle this load?

your encore will take ruger level loads but ive never got one to shoot well with them. My dads really likes a 255 rcbs swc and 9.5 grains of unique. It will kill any animal hes hunting.

The Contender was meant to handle these loads.  Your biggest problem will be accuracy in this barrel.  I don't have this problem, because I have a .45 Colt barrel.  The jump that the bullet has to make to get to the lands and groves in your barrel lead to the accuracy problem.  As far as the heavy loads, that should be no problem.

Just remember that these loads should be kept separate from any Colt clone rounds.  they are not meant to be shot from these guns.  Way too much power!!!  Also remember that the info on this or any wire should be verified first through researched from established reloading books before being used.  Sometimes the info you get may be inaccurate and could be dangerous.

Hope this helps.    ;)

Thanks for the information, I am aware of the accuracy issue.  I live in Minnesota and I am plan to carry the Contender with the 45 / .410 barrel as a "side arm" and use it only for very close shots from my stand.  It is common to get deer from 2 to 25 yards from my stands.   My G2 willl go to South Dakota with me too but it will have the 7-30 barrel.  Still waiting for my first handgun deer.
