I Need A high Velocity Bullet Lube
« on: April 16, 2003, 08:00:06 PM »
:-D Greetings from the Great White North:

Does anyone have a recipie for a high velocity bullet lube?

I have a 375 H&H.  I want to shoot a 260grain gas check lead cast bullet; cast from wheel weight alloy and cold water quenched out of the mold.  I'd like to try for 2500 ft per second.  Am I dreaming in technicolour or have I just sniffed too many lead fumes?

Will rooster red work for a high velocity load?  Does anyone know what's in rooster red?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Kindest regards,
Carpediem

comericial lube for high speed rifle loads you will go far to beat lbt blue. What I have been using is a mix of 2/3 felix lube and 1/3 the lube that the moderator of this forum Billy Marr sells it has been great!. I believe he sells a mixed lube now too you might want to give it a try.

:-D Thanks for the info guys:

Being a bit of a mad scientist type, I enjoy trying to make my own potions and such.  I have been making and using a bullet lube of 50/50 bees wax and parifin wax and, by weight, adding 25% molibidinum disulphide, (moly).  This stuff works great for pistol bullets and my 45-70, to about 1800 ft/sec.  What I want to make, is a bullet lube I can use on a cast bullet with gas check for my 375 HH.

I would like to try driving the 375 bullets to around 2500 ft/sec.  I am using wheel weights and cold water quenching the bullets when they come out of the mold.

Has anyone tried substituting carnuba wax for bees wax?  If so, what were the results?

Kindest regards,
Carpediem

The best I have used without leading is LBT Blue.
