Info needed on 357 B&D
« on: August 20, 2006, 10:48:53 AM »
I am thinking about geting either a 10 or 12' barrel for my T/C  in the 357 Bain and Davis. I love the data for it from the Hodgon manual and think it is an interesting round. Does anyone out there have this round and what barrel length/load/velocity do you use/get from it.

Ballistic equivalent of a 357 Max.  But with the Max you can use carbide dies.  I use a 357 Max for deer and think it's great.
If you don't mind lubing cases to resize, then go for it.

I have a 10" barrel someone rechambered from a 357 mag.It is easy to form brass and easy to load for.Mine likes bullets in the 158gr - 160 gr the best but it will shoot the 180's plenty good for deer loads. It is real close to my 357 max in velocity but not as accurate most of the time in my opinion. The only reason I have the 357-44 I got barrel, brass and dies real cheap.

Thanks for the info. From my Hornady manual, it looked like B&D had about 200 fps over the 357 max but from what I am seeing from you guys it's not really that much in reality. I am in no hurry to pick out something. I want something in 35 caliber to play with to add to my other T/C barrels.

Ted

Always glad to see someone pick up the B&D, I have a 357 B&D in a Bullberry 12 inch barrel and an 1894 Marlin rechambered in 357 x 44 B&D, I just sold a 22inch Encore rifle barrel in 357 B&D that shot real well, I had it chambered to use the Hornady 180 gr XTP's, as well as a 14 inch bull barrel in 357 Max in my encore. I also have a Ruger Blackhawk chambered in 357x44 B&D. The B&D is a ball to shoot in the Marlin, the 125 gr jhp pills zip out at over 2300 fps, can't wait to tag a yote with it. The Max excells at using the heavier bullets 180 gr and up, while the B&D really throws the bullets out there in my own experience it falls just a very small degree short of the Max in velocity. While the B&D is very accurate I would have to give the edge to the Max again. The best powders for me have been Lil'Gun and Win 296. Good luck with your barrel.
