30/30 handi
« on: August 24, 2006, 04:01:35 PM »
Hello all
I have a handi in 30/30 and I am looking for a load for it.  Any help would be great.
I found a load in my nosler book for a 150 ballistic tip with 32 grains of IMR4895 it a velocity of 2074.
Is there something better?
I have a lot of 4895 left to reload with.

thanks kevin

My rifle likes the Hodgon recomended max load of Varget with the 150 grain spire point ... http://www.hodgdon.com/data/rifle/3030win.php . Other powders I've used that work well are BL-C2, IMR 3031 and H4895. I've never tried IMR 4895 but it should be a good powder. Your load is 1.3 grains below IMR's recomended max, http://www.imrpowder.com/data/rifle/3030win.php , so you have a little room to work up if you want. Of course if the load you have is accurate stay with it and let us know ... maybe I'll try it!

one question  you  need to answer before loading anything is what are you wanting to do with this rifle and load? you lookin for target laods , plinkers, grizzlie killers?  that way you arent wasting componets?
