bear calls?

Hey I just was wondering how many out there use a call for black bear. What kind is the best and are they hard to learn. I call alot of elk and would like to try bear calling. Thanks Slim.

The times I have had a Black Bear come in(4 times) while calling I was after coyotes.  Three of those times I was using a fawn in distress call and the other I was using a Jack Rabbit in distress call.  Of course it wasn't bear season and I wasn't using a rifle suitable for bear(.22 Hornet each time) so I never fired a shot.  But the one thing that is still on my mind is just how quiet those bears were coming in.  In each case they were within 30 yards before I knew they were there.  So I have one word of advice, DO NOT call alone.  Lawdog

You may remember last fall some pictures going around of a partially eaten person being picked up by rescue teams?  They claimed some one had been killed and eaten by a bear in Alaska, and that it had just happened.  Well the truth was it took place near Juneau back in the mid 90s, the individual was calling Black Tail Deer, using a fawn bleat.   A Brown Bear slipped up behind him, killed him, and ate him.  Keep your back covered!  Unlike Deer and Elk, these animals can and will kill you and eat you.  Remember they are coming in looking for a meal.  And they know they are the top predator.
    I'm going to be up in a tree stand this spring, with my speaker on the ground.   Or sitting out in the middle of the river in my boat.  Last summer I was sitting on the river fishing, fishing was slow so I pulled out my squealing rabbit call to see if I could interest the Ravens.  I did get a response from these birds, I think it was curiosity.  Anyway a Black Bear came out on the river bank looking.  All I had with me was a 12ga, and it was 80 to 100 yards away.  After sniffing around for a while he winded us and left fast.
