New Project: Reloading for the M1
« on: August 29, 2006, 12:15:58 PM »
I suspect IMR 4895 or 4064, preferably 4895 just to keep the powder supply simple.  I plan on starting with Sierra 168 HPBT MatchKing's.  I allready have a good supply of Winchester primers.  I picked up a case of Korean 30-06 ammo.  Looking for a supply of Lake City, but I'll try with what's available.  I've heard that the Israeli bullets in .224 are excellent and I was wondering if anyone knew if they export a .308 bullet; if so, where to find them.
Any hints, suggestions, tricks, substitutions or general advice greatly appreciated.

Try Widener's for Yugo, 150 grain bulllets if you get tired of paying for the Sierra's.  Check out the CMP site for 4895 load data for the Garand.  Data is there for 150's and heavier

Thanks for the reminder for Widners, I'd forgotten about them.  As to CMP website and loading information, it's probably me but I've found no loading information anywhere on the site, before or after your post.  I hate to ask it but do you have a url?

ButlerFord45, I'm befuddled.  I looked all over and can't find the loadinng data either.  It was there back in the spring when I was playing around trying to find a part but has now evaporated.  Sorry for the wild goose chase.

ButlerFord, according to everything I've heard or read, if that Korean is in clips, its corrosive.  The NC is in 20rd boxes.  Though I've never been wrong before, there is a very tiny chance that I could be.  Better safe than sorry.

Loading information is becoming intresting, some reference's max loads are the begining loads elsewhere.  I've determined MY start and max with mil brass and CCI 34's, all I need now is empty brass and primers.
Blackhawk, Yup, corrosive but the I don't mind the extra effort.
