Wolf Ammunition

I'm curious if anyone ever uses this brand.  I'm looking for some low-cost "fun" ammunition, and I don't reload at this point.  Is this stuff usable?  I'd heard some scary rumors about how the Russian stuff would eat up my barrels, but that was quite a while ago, and this is cheap.

And I know I should reload, but it's more a time & space thing than it is a money issue, so no bustin' my chops over that one.    :wink:

Wijbrandus:  Wolf ammunition does not have a good reputation.  Many, including myself, find it dirty, inaccurate and not always powerful enough to work an action.  There are other brands of inexpensive ammo around that may serve you better.  Milsurp stuff is one of them.  I think the Wolfe ammo is just poor quality.  Hope this helps.  Mikey.

I to was going to go the Wolf route for some .223 ammo and buy a thousand rounds. Luckily I decided to buy 3 boxes first and try them out. I have a mini 14 and it ate them up and spit em out fine. Accuracy wasn't really any different for me eighter. But once I got back home and started cleaning the fun began. I usally shoot 100-200 rounds a time of federal and this gun was 2-3 times as dirty with 60 rounds through it. Took me twice as long to get that smelly soup out of the barrel and everywere else. I'll pay an extra buck a box now to not have that happen again. Find another way, I do not recommend. My 2 cents.

I see people shooting Wolf ammo at the gun range all the time (mostly .223 ammo).  Anyway, when they clean their rifles after a certain amount of shots, I always hear them cussing up a storm.  One guy was so upset that literally threw his remaining 3 or 4 unsued boxed in the trash and took off.  (I took them out of the bucket and gave them to the range officer to properly dispose of them.)

Based on my visual (and audio) experience, I would not recommend Wolf ammo.

Ok, that's three strikes for Wolf in my book, and they are out.

Thanks for the info.  I'll continue to pay a little more and get ammo I can deal with just fine.

I reload 223 and 7.62x39, but I have a haalf brick of wolf 7.62 put away for safe keeping. and a couple of hundered rounds of .223.  I also have about 3/4 of a case of horrible Argentinian 8mm Mauser.  These are just back-up ammo in case we go to war in our own country or are attacked.
  The wolf ammo works great in some guns, certainly I have heard people claim it dosent work in theirs, but I have never once seen it foul an SKS or a mini 14.....it's dirty.....hasnt been MY experience.  It's WIMPY AMMO??
.....that hasnt been MY experience either.  It is some of the hottest stuff on the block, if anything.....it is pushing the envelope.  It usually pops the primer dent back out flat from the pressure, and as far as MY re-loading experience goes......that is right on the edge of a maximum load, any more pressure and the primers would be getting flattened in the pocket.
  Now boys...this is just MY humble opinion.  Send all that crappy ammo to me.

I've shot Wolf ammo in .223 and .9mm and have never had reliability problems with it except for out of an AR-15.  Tried it in a mini-14 and Beretta 92 and they fired them perfectly and fairly accurately.  The AR-15 was sensitive with it, but I've never seen an AR that I thought was as reliable as the Mini-14.  Anyway, Wolf ammo does foul up your weapon alot, but that is my only complaint of it.
