Speer .85 grn .243 bullet ?
« on: August 30, 2006, 04:45:09 AM »
Went to the range yesterday with my new Browning a-bolt to sight in and test some bullets. after a lot of shooting and coronographing. I shot the speer .85 much to my suprise it shot the smallest groups of all 1/4"  I just couldn't believe it ?
Has anyone used this bullet on game (antelope/deer) What were your results ? It shoots much better in my rifle than the much vaulted sierra .85 game king. The rifle also liked Factory Remington 100 grn corlockts 1/2 to 3/4 inch groups. I am now thinking of using the speer 85 for coyotes and the occasional deer. Your imput appreciated. 8)

I have the 6mm Rem instead of the 243. I used the 100 grain slugs in it but was faced with many long tracking jobs after perfect,or nearly so hits.I switched to the 85 Sierra's and tracking chores were shorter on nonexistant after that.Deer usually collapsed with in 20 feet of being hit.

If you can't get any first-hand information about the Speer 85, you can call Speer's tech support. They are very level-headed and experienced hunters. I've called them about a few things and have always gotten good advice.

I use both Speer and Sierra handgun and rifle bullets. But I've found that the Sierra 85 gr. BTHP .243 bullet is the most efficient choice for me. For reasonably priced bullets, Sierra quality is unsurpassed.
If at first you don't succeed, by all means try again. But if this doesn't work, give up, because there is no sense in making a darn fool of yourself.

I have to second the sierra 85gr HPBT. that is the most accurate bullet I have used in my 6mm-223. I have yet to try it in my 6mm Remington.

It's no telling what bullet a rifle will like til ya try it. That same bullet with another powder may do the same thing. It's all a matter of trying.

AIN"T RELOADING FUN ??!!
