« on: August 26, 2006, 02:35:04 PM »
just bought a pedersoli double 10 gauge and wanted to ask the experts what they have found to work the best for loads. I have several rifles and a few pistols but new to blackpowder shot gunning.

you should have gotten the manuael with the gun?   in my manuale for my pedersoli 10 from cabellas its  110 gr ffg, ...overpowder  (nitro) card,....1/ 2 inch fiber wad,..... one and half ounce shot.(or 1 1/4 ounce)  and   over shot card, i use two  with side by sides.. place the  the punch ridge on the over shot cards up to help hold the shot down..  if you shoot one barrel remove the nipple and repack the load in the unshot barrel so it doesnt work up and loosen the load.. a loose load will pattern poor and could be dangerous..  measure the ram rod on the hand and remember where it comes to on your hand in the loaded gun.. make sure both barrels have the correct  length of ramrod protruding or pull the load that is wrong..  you can double charge one side and short the other..  i always put lube like tc lube between the nitro card and the fiber wad... you can reduce the load quite a bit but you should  add more fiber wad to keep the load from tipping.. one problem i had with competition was that the nitro cards i was getting were not large enought to seal the bore..ihad to make my own with oversized punch and picture frame matting(using a couple under the nitro card))  if you have a choke slightly bend the nitro card to get it by the choke, and put it over the powder and then do another and criss cross the folds.. do not cram it in edge wise...     then with choke  instead of using fiber wads    use wool felt wads soaked with tc lube.. they can be purchsed or you can buy scrap hard  wool felt and make your own..  about two 1/4 inche thick  wads   is enough..  again if the load is gettin too short from downloading you will need to add someting (nitrio card or felt to keep it from tipping..too many nitro cards will reduce velocity..  be sure to pattern the gun and make the right barrel overlap the pattern of the left barrel with your chokes..  if the barrels dont shoot on center  worth a darn  your in for some serious problems..  pedersoli is not famous for having accurate barrel alignment.. some are some arnt.. yo will proberly have to raise the comb to make it on target at 40 yards but this is normal with most guns.. i use cardboard and camo tape.. make the cardboard level or you will get slamed in the face when you fire..    a proper amount of distance between barrrel alignment is about three inches ..  more can be ok with more open chokes.. with  a center bead i sighted mine in with the left barrel (with full choke),  and then used improved cylender on the right barrel to overlap the full choke pattern.. .  dave

I use 80 grains of 2f with my pedersoli 10 guage with same volume of powder.  It slays clays well.  I use overpowder and overshot cards of same material and I split a prelubed felt wad in half.  It works well for me.  I have IC and MOD fixed chokes.

I emailed Pedersoli about using PRB in the shotgun and they sent back a long article that pretty well explained what can be and can't be done with the Pedersoli shotgun.  In short, the advise against PRB but suggest that buck and ball be used.  Three 00 or 000 balls depending on guage, (I used 36 cal balls) with a large caliber ball on top.  (I used a 58 caliber ball. It worked pretty well)  I never patterned it but did catch a gong at 40 yards with the one shot I tried.

I find that with my shotgun, I have to concentrate to keep my cheek on the stock when I shoot as it slaps me pretty well.  But if I do my part, the shotgun has never let me down.
