A friend had remarked on the short ears that this one had upon e-mailing him this pic early last season. Not all are like this, perhaps you can point out more differences that you see.

The true western coyote by contrast is one of a much longer eared persuasion.

Is the best picture of a western that I am able to submit. ;D
Perhaps someone else can post one.

The head and muzzle appear to be much broader than the coyotes I've seen.  'course that could be the camera angle.

The ears and eyes favor the wolf as for the rest of him it looks pretty standard. But the ears are noticeably smaller than the western coyote. Obviously there has been some genetic changes over the years due to breeding with some of the wolf strains of the north east. That one you have the picture of is kinda neat looking Have a good day sir..........Joe........

The vocalizations seem to favor both sides.

They can yip & yap and sometimes sound like hyhenas.
They will respond to a howler and the challenge & distress can work well.

Sometimes you would swear that you have a pack of wolves over there
When they open up.

I like to get their attention, but become increasingly subtle with the call (read coaxing)
When they get within 500yds and let them hunt me down.
In alot of cases I do not know they are there and will start light with a squaller, but then really pour it on hard in the prime time of after sundown to dusk.

P.S. Watch the  Majors & Minors for your local as said by the Solunar Tables.
They really do seem to work. Sometimes I may be out at 1:00 in the afternoon.
