Pistol or scout scopes?

I was wondering what the difference was between pistol and scount scopes were.  Will a pistol scope work fine as a scout scope?  I ask this because there are a lot more pistol scopes available than scout scopes.

If true scout scopes are better suited, what good scopes are available?

THe only one I have messed with is the leupold 2.5x scout.  I have two of them one with duplex and the other with the heavy german #1.  They are a lot better than some of the pistol scopes I have tried, very durable and very clear.  I shot my moose last year with a 9.3x62 scout with the leupold 2.5 duplex.

Most of the difference between pistol and scout scopes have to deal with the amount of eye relief.  I believe the scout scopes have around 9 - 13 inches of eye relief.  Pistol scopes have a tad more eye relief. 

However, the Nikon 2 - 8 pistol scope has been advertised as also working as a scout scope.  I'm looking at buying one specifically as a scout scope.
