Hi Rick:

I parted with my Marlin 1895 45/70 about 10 years ago.  At the time I needed a gun safe more than I needed the rifle.  But it was still one of my all time favorite rifles.  I had Veral Smith of LBT make me a custom bullet mold that made a Long Flat Nose weighing exactly one ounce or 438 grains.  This bullet was a flat base i.e. no gas check design and could be driven at 1,500 fps before any real leading started to form in the barrel.

At least I had the good sense to sell the gun and the mold to a friend of mine.  So I've been fortunate enough to have shoot it on 4 or 5 occassions since the sale and he pretty much still uses the load I had worked up for that bullet.  So it is almost like the good old days when it was mine.
