Any of you dog hunters got any info on Berger 17.cal  vs. Hornady's 17 cal bullets??   .....    The Trap Maker.

I have been shooting a 17 remington for about the last 5 years and have tried most bullets made.  I prefer the berger 30gr for coyotes.  I have shot the 25 grain in bergers but just do not get the right performance with them.  the 25 grain hornady is probably the most popular and an excellent bullets all around.  Guess it depends what you are shooting.  If it is small groung stuff whatever is most accurate is the way to go.  For dogs I find the 30 bergers stay together long enough to enter the chest then explode violently enough to drop them in their tracks.  rarely do I get an exit wound.  This is especially important for me when I shoot bobcats.  Hate to mess up a nice pelt.  I have also tried Stark bullets.  They seem to stay together longer and exit game.

My preferance is the 25 grain Berger/Hornady both with Moly coating as 30 grainer's are a tad heavy for the 17-MACH 4 unless your shots are closer-in. I've killed coyotes to 350 yards with out a problem using 19.5 grains of AA-2230 powder. Have not owned a 17 Rem before but with its larger powder column it should use the 30 grain bullet very well and would be my choice for sure..
