how to sweat solder?
« on: September 06, 2006, 04:38:15 AM »
I've got a Ruger #1-B, w/o iron sights. I'm planning on putting some on it, and I wondered what the process for sweat soldering the front sight to the barrel is. Is it something the average guy can do or do I really need to take it to a gunsmith? Are there other methods besides this type of soldering that are equally or more effective?
You only take one shot at a time, so don't waste it :cb2:

Sweating is not really hard to do but is a fairly complex task. Almost all sights are screwed to the barrel and it's what I suggest. Firstly a call to Ruger service might be in order. Perhaps they can help. Otherwise a sight and ramp setup can be ordered from Browells.. The Ruger front ramp is a barrel band and is retained by a set screw. Good luck!!
