Savage 340 Date?

I have a bolt action 30-30 Savage model 340 also known as a Springfield model 840 ser#A5076xx that I wish to know the date of manufacture.

It must have been made in the later years of production. I have a Savage 340, and a Stevens 325 [same rifle basically], and they have no ser numbers at all. I like these short light rifles for deer hunting.

yes and no, You can shoot very short pointy objects. The magazine and ejection port length is very limited on my 340.
 Another kicker on the 340 is both that I've owned in the past would start throwing shots wildly as well as stretch the pee out of cases with max or near max 30-30 loads. A lot of people see the 340 as a way to turn a 30-30 into a 300 sav but the guns aren't built for it and they would be much better served with a single shot for that.

 I have been loading 130gr spire points,they are shorter than factory 150rn's.

I found the 125g Remington PSP's worked very well with H335. I pushed them to about 2650-2700  fps, and found them very accurate to well past 250 yards. The 150g Winchester PSP Power Point worked very well for me too, as it is not as elongated as some 150g psp's. For a blast I tried 110g Hornady psp's and IMR 4198 at a velosity of 2800 fps. There was no sign of preasure and they shot into 1" at 100 yards. As far as the rifles stretching brass, some are worse than others. I have a Stevens 325 that has a very tight chamber and has great brass life. The Savage 340 I load for has a slightly larger chamber, but I just partial size the brass by just pushing the shoulder back a hair, and brass life is good.
