super redhawk case sticking question

This has probably been discussed many times before, but I can't seem to use the search all that well.  I have a super redhawk 454 and like most of the super redhawks, the cases stick with factory ammo.  I have to tap the rod with a wooden mallet to get them ejected.  I have read about the type of metal used in the cylinder and the stretching etc.  What I need to know is if sending the revolver back to the factory had any positive results.  I like the weapon and will suffer with the problem, but I do not want to pay for shipping the thing back east and bothering Ruger if nothing can be done to correct the problem.

On some of the SRH's the cylinders were not polished smooth enough.
I have had several 454's without any problems. I did own one in 480 that had cases sticking with Hornady factory ammo. I call to Hornady (Bob) confirmed what I just wrote.  I ended up polishing the chambers with a dowel rod wrapped with cloth and valve grinding compound. I never had any more factory cases stick.

Thank you, I believe that due to the cost of repairing a screw-up, which I have a habit of doing, I will probably send it to the company for the repair

When calling Manufactures about returns,always ask them to send a pickup slip. It'll take some asking and you may have to speak to a supervisor,but I've not paid for any that I've sent back.

My son had a .480 that had sticky extraction. When I went to resize the brass, I found that the chambers weren't round, but somewhat oval shaped. He sent it back and Ruger replaced everything but the frame, no charge!

Quit using those Hornady cases and the problem will go away. Both Ruger and Taurus leave their chambers a bit rough. I think this is so they won't move back under recoil. Hornady leaves their brass too danged soft and that is definitely intentional as I've discussed it with them. They say they think it gives longer case life. I say BS as other brands last just as long.

They supplied me with a bunch of .454 Casull ammo for a product review. It worked fine in the FA 83 but you had to hammer it out of the Taurus.

I have had several brands of ammo stick in the revolver.  But the Hornaday did the worst where a mallet had to be used.  The rest could be extracted by pushing the rod down on a reloading bench or head since both of mine are the same denseness.

this may seem like an unpopular alternative, but look at the power and the penetration you get from Garrett Cartridges' .44 mag' ammo' in their 330 gr' bullet weight for the Super RedHawks.

it is phenomenal what a .44 mag' can do with a weight-forward bullet design using heavy doses of a proper propellant!   and, the purchase of such bullets from hardcast vendors allows us to home-brew loads of very significant power and penetration.   j.d. jones used to sell a mold for a 320 gr' hardcast that he said gave almost 1400 fps' from a 7 1/2" Ruger with safe pressures!   it would kill elephant! 

i think that bullet from Jone's might have been used out of the Super BlackHawk's of the day....

just my two cents on the problem with .454 Casull's in a Ruger.
