I'll give you the advice I was given, if you're not prepared to buy one, for goodness sake, don't shoot one! I didn't listen, so now I've owned one for the better part of a year. It is, in my opinion, the nicest, smoothest, recoil-free compound bow I have ever shot or owned. You can buy any number of very nice compound bows that will do the job if you do yours, and for less money no doubt, they just won't be a Mathews. Whisker bisquit & Cobra 3-pin sight, the rest is up to you. Practice, practice, practice. The XT will make practice fun.

I have a XT and love it!!!! The bow is extremely smooth and quiet. Plus Mathews stands very firm behind their product and the warrenty and customer service is the best in the business. I have the bow set up with Sword sight, trophy taker drop away rest, alpine soft loc quiver, limbsaver s-coil stabilizer, rist sling, and maxima 250 arrows. I have a 28" draw with the bow at 62lbs, and shoot at 281 Fps. With prices here in KY you can expect to spend about $900-$1000 on a quality set up. Now this could change some if you already have some accessories. If I were you I would wait until the end of november before buying a new bow, I heard from a mathews rep that a new bow will be released in mid-november in time for Christmas.  :) wait and see what it is, who knows it could be better then the XT.

Yep, if you need sights, rest, quiver, arrows, etc ... dont expect a whole lotta change from a 1000 bucks. My brother-in-law bought a new Outback end of season a year or two ago and haggled them down to approximately 30-35% off rrp.

Got to say I would love an XT, but my Mathews Ultra2 is still putting a world of hurt on deer after 4 seasons and still going strong ... when your on a good thing stick to it  ;D

I am budgeting for around 1 K. for the bow. I have an almost new wisker biscuit and a keller pendulm sight on a bow that was given to me and was thinking about using them. but I am really liking the new fiber optic sights on the market now. I will not be getting a new bow until about march or so (after taxes come in)

I tried a Keller for a season but personally did not like it. I now use a Trophy Ridge Matrix Micro 3 Pin Sight set at 20, 30 and 40 yards. My longest shot was last year at 35 yards The glow sticks that you can use with the Matrix and other Trophy Ridge sights do help get that 5-10 mintutes extra hunting at last light. Once in a new stand I use a laser range finder to get 20, 30 and 40 distances all around my stand. Ranging I found is critical when on slopes as I find that my distance guestimations are not all that accurate in this situation  ::) Laser ranging has taken that right out of the equation.

Geez, I bought my first Whitetail Hunter for $69. Shot a lot of deer with it. Are $1000 bows that much better? I still get what I shoot at (not more than 25 yds. no sight, no release), although over the years I have invested in a second dozen arrows (1999) Only have 8 of those xx75's left. Hope they don't stop making them! Shot a nice doe Friday night. Arrow cleaned up real good with cold water.

My whitetail II has been trough hell and back and still works good. a few years ago it fell out of my tree stand and hit the ground 25 feet below and bounced back up almost into my hands it still works and nice and safe to shoot. I just want to replace it with a shorter, lighter and more quiet bow

Go shoot alot of bow before you decide. Be aware that mathews customer service leaves something to be desired. They were not helpful w/ me  & I will NEVER own another mathews.  MIke
