Loads for Hornady 120 gr SSSPs in XP100
« on: November 02, 2003, 11:59:57 AM »
I just found some Hornady120 Single Shot Pistol bullets that I use to use in my XP 100 but I can't find the data I used.

I have IMR4084, IMR4350, and 3031 powders to chose from.  Do any of you have a good load for this bullet with any of these powders?

This is the 7-08 right?  I've nothing for this bullet but for a 139 grain, 40.5 of IMR-3031 is listed as maximum and I'd nock off about 10% and start with for 36.5 grain starting load and work up until accuray fell off.  Your gun may allow you to add a couple more grains than the max. for 139s but maybe not so approach with caution.  I like 3031 in shorter barrels as it keeps muzzle flash down a bit.  Good luck.

Yes it's a 7mm-08 and the powder is 4064 not 4084. My fingers don't always type what I am thinking.

On another thread of mine H 4895 was suggested. I am thinking of trying some. I have had good luck with Hodgdon's powders in loading my handgun cartridges.

Anyone else used H4895?

that may have been me using h4895 in my 7-08 encore. only powder i've tried, and found out right quick, it's the only one i'll need to try. 2800fps with 120gr nosler bt(15" barrel). 41.5gr h4895. great accuracy!
a couple friends recommended it to me, and it saved me a lot of trouble and money wasted on trying different components. of course some barrels are different, and you won't know till you try it in your own gun.  :D
