Williams sights
« on: June 24, 2006, 11:32:39 PM »
About two years ago, I put a Williams Foolproof peep on my Marlin 1894 in 44 Mag. It has served well, and shoots great. A couple months ago I bought a long awaited Marlin 1895G, so I bought a FP rear and Fire Sight front set from Williams. The set came with two front Fire Sights, one wide and one narrow. The narrow one fit the 1895, and as it turned out, the wide one fit the 1894. So, after some careful filing for the dovetail, the two rifles look like twins. Can't wait to get them to the range.

I'm not a big fan of the factory sights, would like to get into a peep sight for my 1894FG.  Do you recall where your original rear sight wound up to hit at 50 or 100 yards?  Mine is 3 clicks up from the bottom, seems any iron sighted lever gun I try winds up with the rear sight at the bottom of its adjustment in order to shoot where the sights aim.

What I don't want to do is purchase a peep that sits so high, the front sight has to be replaced with a taller version just to have the bullets impact where aimed.  I've already done that with a 9422.

The NECG sight made for a Weaver mount looks pretty high, the FP Williams that uses the rear scope mount holes looks about the same.  Any experience with these?

I did not have any trouble with sight height on the 1894. I have not shot the 1895 yet - planning on getting it to the range today, so I never used the factory sights on the 45/70. The Williams peep worked fine with the factory front sight on the 1894 44 mag. The front Firesight is a new addition, and I haven't shot with it yet. I don't think you'll have a problem.

If you are looking for more precision than you have now try to compliment your rear sight with the KNS Precision cross hair type front sight.  Just installed a Williams WGRS rear and KNS dovetail front crosshair sight on my new 336C.  The crosshair sight made me skeptical until I shot it at the range.  No more of the target circle hiding behind the bead front sight.  Now the target can be split into four sections with the crosshairs.  Can't be beat in my opinion.  Shouldn't work well with a semi-buckhorn type rear sight, but anything with a ring type rear sight should be real pleasin'.

Check them out at www.knsprecisioninc.com.  Go to the Ruger 10/22 page.  The sights were originally designed for military and the 10/22 but the 10/22 dovetails work great on Marlin and other dovetail ramps.
Always need another gun.
