Nosler Accubonds
« on: August 30, 2006, 03:09:11 AM »
Been shooting 150gr partitions in 06 for a long time.Just got some 150gr nosler accubonds, and first group I shot with them measured .392 for three shots. So shot a few more and groups stay right at half inch,so am a happy camper.I will be useing them this fall.Wanted to hear from some of you who have used accubonds in the feild. From some I recoverd from dirt bank they were very impressive and seemed to expand to larger dia than partitions and still retained good weight.Any comments are appreciated

That's heartening news for me.  I bought 4 boxes from Midway a while back when they were on sale.  Don't even had a 30-06 to load them in (disregarding my Garand) until I sell my Weatherby 270 but know in my heart of hearrts I will some day and just wanted to be ready.

I load Accubonds in my 700ADL .30-06.  I shot one deer last year ~150 yards (146 paces), quartering away left to right.  I shot it square in the right shoulder and it exited in front of the left shoulder.  The exit wound was probably 2X the entry wound.  The deer dropped in its tracks.  There was no bleeding from the entry wound until I pressed on the animal, so it's heart had stopped bleeding practically instantly.

My groups are definitely MOA, but I don't think they are .392.  I do know they opened up w/ 51.0 and 52.0gr of IMR4064, I might try some other loads around 51.4 if I have time.

My load:
Nosler Accubond 150gr
R-P brass once-fired
51.4gr IMR4064 (~2900fps)
CCI Magnum primers

Good luck and good shooting!

june6th1944,Thanks for the report on how they do on game.I'm lucky,as this rifle was my dads,a remington 700 30-06 carbine with 20inch barrel that he bought in 1962,and used untill his passing in 1998.It shoots every thing well, and I have since retired my younger 06 and use his,as it will always be his in my mind.Just to let you know,he also used imr 4064 and 150gr sierras wiyh 52grs.

I don't reload anything else for hunting but Nosler Accubonds, they shoot like a match bullet and drop everything on the spot. I haven't had to look for an animal yet.
odds are with the prepared.....
