Hammer spurr
« on: September 08, 2006, 09:44:44 PM »
Hey guys, I made it home and into the garage and started fiddling with the hammer and spurr when i noticed that the spur is cracked. I want to know if i can grind off the bottom two peices that support the spurr and drill a hole into the hammer( not a hole all the way through, just enough to get the screw from the spurr to bed) and attatch the spurr that way.? Would it damage the hammer if i were to do this? Thanks. Henry. P.S. heres a pic for ya. (whew! that was a lot of work for 147am!)

Just get a new spur and turn it around so the slot is up/forward and on as far as it will go. This will serve two purposes, first it will get the spur lower on the hammer. Second, the inertia from the hammer strikes wont bend them open and ruin them by cracking/deforming the ears. I learned that with the first one one I has several years ago, after turning them all around I haven't had another problem.

Ok thanks! What do you think of the drilling idea? I mean, I dont want to if i dont have to, but it would be handy if somehow the spurr got hung up on somthing in a pick up and was able to cling to the hammer cause its drilled into it. I dont know. Just tell me what you think?

Henry1, you won't be able to drill the hammer without annealing it first, it's too hard, I tried!!

You can get a new one from H&R, send em a picture of it and ask for a replacement. They damaged a stock of mine when I had a barrel fitted, sent them an email with a pic of the stock, they sent me a new stock!! Worse case scenario, they'll ask you to buy a new one for $8 and shipping.
