Stupid Drunken Shooter
« on: March 16, 2003, 04:09:03 PM »
I had an incident today that I would like to share, this is not CAS related at all. My Sister and brother In-Law live in a compact neighborhood where the houses from Back to Back are less than 50 Yards apart and seperated by a 36" Cyclone fence, The neighbor who lives behind them began Drinking Beer then throwing the cans out the back window and shooting at them with a 22LR Rifle, DIRECTLY AT THEIR HOUSE!! They called and asked what they should do I said (and I cringe at the thought of starting another firearms legal issue) Call the PD which they proceeded to do
By the time the PD arrived the shooter had departed, but the Investigating Officer dug a few slugs out of the back of the house, My sister and Brother in Law are supporters of Gun ownership, My BIL owns guns and wants to shoot CAS but they have a baby she is now just over a year old, her bedroom is on the side of the house that was hit, she sits in a high chair in front of the Sliding Doors to eat as does my sister, It is people who do crap like this that makes us all look bad. Sorry if I bored you or Pissed you off but had to tell somebody.

P.S. I would have called in CAS....

The Constitution gives everyone the right to an arm, but everyone does not have the common sence to own one.  This guy is the reason the Liberals are winning.  If the brother-in-law had killed the idiot, he probably would have done the world a favor, but would have had to have lived with the fact for the rest of his life.  I really don't give a rat's ass what the law says, you have to prove self defence, and depending on where you live, to what degree your live was being threatened.  Rediculious!!   I'm glad that everyone was unhurt.  They will catch the guy, and he'll get a $100 plus court cost fine and 6 months probation unless he pleads guilty to a lesser charge.  I guess under the circumstances they did the right thing, except calling you before calling the police.  Personally, I'd have been hard pressed not to return fire.  Course, my neighbor is in jail now for shooting his wife in the face with a 357.  I may have a different mindset.

Figure calling in the law was/is the way to go.  Always seems a bit different after the smoke has cleared and the general population usually doesn't fully understand the situation as it went down.
If he did this he'll do something else soon and have free rooom and board for a time.

Your advice and their action was the only sensible and legal solution.  My concern would be that someone stupid enough to do what he (the shooter) did is probably the type who will want to "get even" for having the law called on him.  The party may not be over yet.

Update on Idiot,
Seems this shooter is 19 years old (Leagal Drinking age here is 21)
His Landlady says she can't ever find him at the house to get his rent.
the neighbors on either side would like to see him move away....
The PD is currently attempting to find him and they are intent on
charging him with Reckless endangerment and discharging a firearm in the city limits.
Waiting for the rest 8)

Well the latest is the Police know his name and contacted the Owner of the house (He is a renter) the owner was not getting paid so threw him out, went through the house and found a "Nest" up in the Attic of the house with an air mattress and a hole punched in the roof, as well as food stuff and empty shell casings, the area where he was shooting at the house was littered with empties and shells and there were holes in the walls around the window as well.......seems the world has yet another nutcase still on the loose.

had I been present perhaps I would have had a flashback from being shot at and returned fire however I was not there I am confident that the PD will find him but luckily he no longer lives in that neighborhood so my sisters family is safe.
