300 RUM
« on: September 16, 2006, 11:40:21 AM »
I just figured out how much rise to make it to 1000yds with a 600yd zero. 17.5" with a 200gr 308 caliber bullet. Not bad!!  What do you think?

Here's an on-line Ballistic Calculator that I find very useful.
http://www.biggameinfo.com/BalCalc.aspx

I run all my hunting loads through this calculator to get bullet drop.

Val,

Sierra goes to 1000yds, but I was compairing the drop for different bullets and yours and Sierra come real close. Within a couple inches and with Sierra you can calulate down to the last number like FPS 3015 or 2943. But I like it just the same. Thanks

Not to burst your bubble but I've found the various ballistic programs to be little more than a "loose guide"  even inside of 300yds. I would consider any 1000yd data to be dubious at best.

I never thought that they were 100% true just a guide to get you to that yardage then you would have to finish the zero at that distance if you want to stay there.

I too, just consider them a guide. Basically they account for the acceleration of gravity. I believe they're plenty accurate enough for hunting purposes.
