Conquest 1.8-5.5x38 vs Nikon Monarch Gold Scope 1.5-6x42
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:32:35 AM »
Anyone have either? Thoughts?

Looking to throw one on a Remington 1100 with cantilever as a shotgun scope, like the longer eye reliefs and love my Conquest 3-9x40.
Also have my eye on the Nikon Monarch Gold Scope 1.5-6x42 Black Matte Nikoplex.

Any issues mounting either on the 1100 cantilever?  42" might require high rings?

The Nikon Gold scopes are heavy. Is the type of mount you intend to use up to the weight and recoil together? I'm not a diehard Leupold fan (I own two) but their fixed 2.75X or 4X may be better. They're light and have good eye relief.

Hey Dave, thanks for the reply.  I'm pretty sure the Remington 1100 cantilever can handle either scope, the recoil isn't that bad with the semi auto.  Weight isn't a huge consideration, since this will used for treestand hunting.

Based on other research, I'm hearing more good about the Conquest line than the Nikon Monarch Gold line.  I'll probably go with the Conquest.
If anyone else has any feedback, please let me know.

Actually I was just seeing there is a Shotgun version with 50 yard parallax on the Conquest 3-9x40mm.  I'd leave it set at 3x for most hunting purposes, and only bump it up for longer shots at relatively stationary deer.  Might go with that...hrmmmmmmmmmm

The Nikon Monarch Gold has a 30mm tube and the Conquest hs a 1".  For you situation, I would stay away from the 30mm.  It is not need and the add weight could make it heavy to carry around. I guess I would look at the Monarch or the Conquest with are both 1" tubes.   The Monarch has the same glass as the Monarch Gold, so you will not see any optical difference between these two models.  The Conquest is a great scope!
